Cruising Code Sails

Reach further, sail easier. A Sanders cruising code sail sits neatly between your upwind headsail and downwind spinnaker, adding effortless power on reaching and broader angles. Designed for simple handling and tidy stowage, it furls like a genoa yet delivers the light-air drive and angle range that modern, non-overlapping rigs often miss.

What is it?

A free-flying reaching sail, typically used from approximately 60°–135° TWA in light to moderate breeze. It “fills the gap” between your jib/genoa and your kites, giving extra area and a stable flying shape when you want to make fast miles without hoisting a spinnaker.

How is it used?

Rigged on a dedicated furler with a torsion luff cable or in a cableless configuration using a high-load luff and structured luff design. Hoist furled, unfurl to power up, then roll away when you’re done – clean, safe and quick for short-handed crews. Sheet to an aft lead for smooth, forgiving trim.

Why do cruisers love it?

  • Transforms light-air reaching and mixed courses
  • Extends your usable angle range without the complexity of a kite
  • Easy to handle: hoist once, furl on demand; ideal for shorthanded sailing

Cruising Code 0

Built for stability, easy furling and a generous low-wind groove. Available as Cable Luff (crisper entry, slightly tighter angles) or Cableless (quieter handling, deeper angles). Cloths and construction are specified for cruising: laminates and polyester radials. Furlers, torsion lines, soft shackles and deck hardware are sized and supplied to suit your boat.

Cruising Gennaker

A true “all-rounder” for reaching and downwind cruising. Fuller in shape than a Code 0, yet flatter than a spinnaker, the cruising gennaker offers an effortless solution for making fast, comfortable miles on passages and mixed courses. Set free-flying and usually sheeted outside the shrouds, it performs brilliantly from close reach to broad reach. It can be flown from either a top-down or bottom-up furler, or handled with a snuffer, giving flexibility in how you set and stow the sail. On multihulls in particular, the extra beam allows the gennaker to work effectively at lower sailing angles, but it’s equally well-suited to cruising monohulls looking for a simple, forgiving downwind option.

Cruising Screecher (Multihulls)

When your catamaran or trimaran doesn’t carry an overlapping genoa, the Cruising Screecher is the logical first step. Designed to bridge the gap between a self-tacking jib and a cruising gennaker, it provides powerful light-air performance with the ability to sail much closer to the wind than a gennaker. Cut flatter and built from strong laminate cloths, the Screecher is engineered to take the high loads generated when pressed upwind, while still delivering usable power as the breeze builds and angles broaden. Typically rigged on a bowsprit with a high-quality torsion cable and bottom-up furling system, it furls neatly for easy handling and stowage.
