Built without compromise using the finest materials available, SFM Filmless Technology is engineered to deliver exceptional reliability and performance—because reliability is the foundation of what our customers demand. Developed in collaboration with Powerplast, SFM features an ultra-thin outer skin with no Mylar film, delivering superior adhesion strength and a more robust composite structure.
The shape, stability and durability of our Filmless Membrane are so impressive that we confidently guarantee it against delamination for three years. Our Filmless skin is treated with a UV-blocking resin and sanitised to resist mildew, ensuring longevity and reliability even in the harshest marine environments. At just 88 g/m², it is lighter than conventional taffetas, enhancing sail efficiency without compromising strength. Available in White, Black and Grey it provides both aesthetic flexibility and superior protection.
Two Constructions. One SFM Philosophy
SFM is available in two distinct constructions; Vectis & Matrix. Each built around the same principles of performance, durability and exceptional shape stability, but engineered to offer different levels of customisation and fibre optimisation.
SFM – Vectis
Bespoke Fibre Alignment
Our ultimate SFM Construction. Vectis allows the reinforcement yarns to be individually aligned and distributed around the predicted load paths of each sail, creating a highly refined structure engineered specifically for its application. Vectis also offers the greatest freedom in specification, with a choice of White, Black or Grey filmless outer skins, allowing each sail to be optimised both technically and aesthetically.
SFM – Matrix
Engineered Fibre Architecture
SFM Matrix uses a carefully engineered multi-directional fibre matrix to deliver exceptional strength, stability and performance, while simplifying the construction process. By standardising the fibre architecture, Matrix retains the fundamental advantages of our Filmless Membrane technology while offering a more cost-effective route into the SFM range. SFM Matrix is available with White or Grey filmless outer skins and UHMPE fibres only.
Racing (SFM)
The Sanders SFM range provides aerodynamics and strength for those undertaking competitive racing. The overall composition of the SFM sail offers a lighter weight, but with improved technology to resist UV damage and delamination. With a low stretch ratio, which helps to maintain a precise shape and minimises stretch in high-load areas, making for an overall stronger and efficient sail.
Cruising (SFM)
For those undertaking performance cruising, the SFM range offers a sail material that delivers an efficient aerodynamic shape, which is lighter weight and ultimately easier to handle. With extra reinforcement, chafe protection, UV-blocking resin & sanitised to resist mildew, these sails offer longevity when cruising. The range prioritises shape & durability and offers minimum stretch to ensure sail shape remains strong for many years to come.
