A True One-Design with Spirit and Style
The Poole Dolphin is a strict one-design dinghy fleet unique to Parkstone Yacht Club in Poole Harbour. With its classic lines and evenly matched boats, the Dolphin offers tactical racing at its best — close, competitive, and friendly. The class has a loyal following and a proud heritage, with boats maintained to a high standard and an emphasis on equal performance.
As with many successful one-designs, small refinements in trim and setup make all the difference — which is why our sail designs are developed with precision and tested in real conditions, alongside active sailors in the fleet.
At Sanders, we offer a dedicated sail package for the Poole Dolphin: one mainsail and one jib design, developed to deliver maximum performance within the class rules. Each sail is hand-finished at our Lymington loft using premium materials from Dimension‑Polyant, ensuring consistency, durability, and competitive edge.
Jibs
Our Dolphin jib strikes the ideal balance between upwind performance and ease of handling. Designed for strong VMG (Velocity Made Good) in all conditions, it features:
- Material: 200 OD HTP+
- Wire: 3mm 1×19 stainless
- Finish: Precision-cut crosscut panels with class-optimised shaping
Careful attention has been paid to luff tension and entry profile to maintain flow while keeping the sail stable and easy to trim — particularly important in variable Poole Harbour conditions.
Mainsails
Our latest 2025 Dolphin mainsail is the result of iterative development and feedback from fleet racers. Key refinements include:
- Material: 200 OD HTP+
- Shape: Enhanced luff curve and subtle changes to the leech exit for better twist and drive
- Construction: Classic crosscut layout for maximum shape-holding and control
The result is a responsive, forgiving sail that builds power when needed but remains balanced and easy to depower in gusts. Sailors will find it works across a range of helm styles and crew weights, making it an excellent all-round performer.
