Yachting World Dayboat
A Classic Dinghy with Racing Pedigree
The Yachting World Dayboat (YWDB) is a 14-foot dinghy that blends stability, safety, and performance. First published in Yachting World magazine in 1949, the design by G. O’Brien Kennedy aimed to create a robust family dayboat that could be easily home-built using traditional wooden methods.
The boat quickly proved itself capable, with excellent seakeeping and a stable, comfortable ride – perfect for estuary cruising, moorings, and occasional racing. As its popularity grew, the class formalised in the 1950s with unified rules, and by the late 20th century had adopted GRP construction while preserving its distinctive shape. Today, the YWDB is an active one-design class with a loyal following and competitive racing scene across the UK.

Jibs
We offer three jib designs to suit a variety of setups and sailing preferences. Each meets the class rules on maximum sail area through different combinations of luff and foot length:
- DB‑SJ‑1 – Short luff
- DB‑MJ‑2 – Medium luff
- DB‑LJ‑3 – Long luff
All jibs are shaped for optimal trim and drive, with precise seam shaping and luff curve control to ensure great all-round performance.
Mainsails
Our championship-winning mainsail is the result of years of refinement. Built in crosscut high-tenacity Dacron, it offers a powerful yet balanced shape, with superb leech flow and twist control. The result is a responsive, efficient sail that works across a wide range of conditions and crew weights.

Materials
- 180 SQ HTP+
A lightweight, ripstop cloth BY Dimension-Polyant featuring a balanced grid weave for minimal stretch in all directions. The HTP Plus resin finish delivers a responsive, crisp feel and high shape stability, making it ideal for performance jibs and smaller mainsails.
- 180 OD HTP+
Built for durability, this Dimension-Polyant fabric balances strength and flexibility with bias stability, offering long-term performance and toughness – perfect for crews seeking consistency and resilience.
- RSQ 4.55 PK
RSQ is a Contender fabric with great durability and dimensional stability, where the rectangular double – ripstop pattern, enhances tear resistance.
